M. J. Harris Construction Services, LLC has deployed Vela Systems Management Software and iPads on a construction project for a 7-story, 250-bed, $109 million replacement hospital in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Vela Systems provides Field Management Software that minimizes the need for pads of paper and tubes of drawings on the jobsite, combining mobile technologies at the point of construction with numerous management reporting tools. Utilizing iPads and Vela software has measurably improved the quality, safety, communication, profitability and real-time analytics of the project.
Mobile 52” document viewing stations are also located on the wifi-enabled project site, which provides field personnel with the latest contract documents. Between the viewing stations, iPads, and Vela software, M. J. Harris hopes to one day eliminate the need for paper drawings.
Randy Stewart, M. J. Harris Assistant Superintendent on the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Replacement Hospital said, “Although there is a learning curve, the iPads have greatly improved the efficiency and success of our project.”
M. J. Harris believes these mobile devices will become a staple in the construction industry, and is working to standardize deployment on future projects.
M. J. Harris is a 5-time winner of the Constructech Vision Awards; Constructech magazine is the construction industry advocate focused on the technology needs of the construction professional dedicated to driving technology initiatives forward.
